In contrast to nitrofurantoin, which also inhibits staphylococci in vitro,2 furaltadone is not rapidly excreted in the urine, at least not in an active form. It was hoped, therefore, that inhibitory concentrations coµLd be produced in the plasma and that it woµLd serve as effective treatment for serious systemic staphylococcal infections.
